JOB DESCRIPTION – SOCIAL MEDIA INTERN

BACKGROUND

Human Race is a leading mass participation sports event business delivering a diverse range of events in triathlon, cycling and running. The company is part of ASO, one of the world’s largest sports events organisers, including notably the Tour de France and participation events L’Etape du Tour and the Paris Marathon.  Human Race’s purpose is to improve lives through mass participation events for everyone.  Our events include the UK’s largest 10k (London Winter Run), Europe’s 4^th largest marathon (Manchester Marathon), the country’s largest open roads sportive (Dragon Ride) and the 35-year-old Royal Windsor Triathlon.

We are looking for a Social Media Intern to join our team who will play a key role in communicating and engaging with our audiences. Working alongside our talented campaign managers, you will be responsible for planning and scheduling social media content across several of our largest events.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

This role is responsible for planning and posting content on social media for our largest events, with an initial focus on the London Winter Run and the Manchester Marathon. Posts will need to be tailored to audiences on channels such as Instagram, Facebook, Strava, and TikTok. Working with the rest of the marketing team you will be required to create content, monitor its success, and report regularly on performance.

The work will potentially be seen by tens of thousands of people, so quality control is key, as is the ability to write in the event’s tone of voice. Alongside the core role you’ll also have opportunities to influence the future of our events and help develop additions and improvements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Own the social media calendar for key events. Ensure content is approved and scheduled/posted on time for multiple channels such as Instagram, Facebook, Strava, and TikTok.
• Monitor the success of social posts. Engage with comments and mentions in a way that matches our values and tone of voice.
• Submit ideas and create appropriate content to be used on our channels.
• Monitor social media trends, both within the running world and wider, and spot opportunities for our channels to prosper.
• Report regularly on social media performance, especially in relation to previous data.
• Work with campaign managers and our designer to ensure all content posted matches our brand guidelines.
• Attend events in person and be able to create high quality social media content to tight deadlines.
• Balance the needs of several projects, prioritise workload, and communicate progress with the team.
• Engage with relevant influencers and partners, work to create engaging collaborations together.
• Assist with wider marketing team initiatives such as media days and photoshoots.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Excellent knowledge of all social media channels including (but not limited to) Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok, and Strava.
• Design and editing skills. The ability to edit together professional looking content videos, and work with professional designers to create templates to use. Experience with Canva or similar editing software is desirable.
• Strong writing skills, especially copywriting in different tones of voice depending on the audience.
• Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work across teams and manage high workloads.
• Superb communication skills and comfortable interacting across any channel.
• Confident and comfortable presenting work and giving constructive feedback to others (and receiving yourself).
• A Digital Marketing or equivalent degree is desirable, but not essential.
