3 is the magic number at Tri Relays
9th September 2015
With the final triathletes from the 2015 Diamond Tri crossing the finish line around midday on Sunday 6th September, it was not long after that the 2015 Tri Relays got underway. Much like the Disney & Mates Waves in the Diamond Tri earlier in the day, the Tri Relays showcased the sport of triathlon in a different light, as a team sport.
Kicking off the Tri Relays in the midday sun was the Triple Relays event, which saw all members of each team complete a 500m swim, 15.9km bike & 5km run. In an exciting and atmospheric race it was Tri Team Wessex White Team who eventually clinched first with a time of 2:56:10, they were shortly followed by the equally impressive Ssp Tri Team in second & another Team Wessex Team, Tri Team Wessex Blue Team who took third.
Shortly following the Triple Relays was the Team Time Trial, a slightly longer and draft-legal event including a 500m Swim, 31.8km Bike, 5km Run. The Time Trial aspect added a slightly more competitive edge to the event however it proved to be a comfortable win for Team Topsy’s Turks who took first place with a time of 1:36:45. Team Innocent: Standard & Ordinary People followed in second with a strong time of 1:48:46 & Team Innocent: Down-Right Perfection in third with an equally impressive time of 1:56:10.
The final event of the day was the Team Relay, a 500m Swim, 21.2km Bike & a 5km Run. The event consisted of a member of each team taking part in one of the three disciplines as supposed to doing a whole triathlon each like in the Triple Relay. The winners of the Team Relay in a fantastic time of 1:06:59 were Team Kiwi Kontenders, who blew away the competition beating Team Telefonica 5 to second by 4 minutes. Team Blue Boys claimed third place with a great time of 1:11:53, with Team Agile & Ageless narrowly missing out on third by 4 seconds. Big credit must go to all the individuals who took part in the Team Relay that are new to triathlon as everyone really gave it their all, which resulted in a great, fun & inspiring afternoon of Triathlon.
A special thanks must also go to ERDINGER Alkoholfrei who were in attendance handing out their natural isotonic sports recovery drinks, which went down extremely well post-race in the midday sun. I’m sure participants were also grateful for the services of Spatone, who provided an ideal post exercise energy boost with their free iron supplements on offer. Zipvit Sport also helped to boost the energy levels of competitors with their free energy gels on offer at registration as well as their refreshing energy drinks out on course at the water stations. A notable mention as well must go to Wiggle who were there throughout the day with a variety of great deals and offers!
A big thank you to everyone who came down to Dorney Lake on Sunday to take part and spectate, as it resulted in a fantastic day of multi-sport action. With another busy weekend of triathlons next weekend with the Impetus-PEF Private Equity Triathlon and the HSBC Triathlon, we hope to see you all again very soon!
