John set up Chessington based Human Race 22 years ago and has grown the business from 2 events to the UK’s largest and most diverse mass-participation sports events company. Back in 1991, when John established Human Race, triathlon was a much less widespread sport and he has contributed to its growth over the years to the present day where GB has achieved Olympic Gold in the sport.
Human Race boasts a prestigious portfolio of triathlons including the annual Toshiba Windsor Triathlon which is televised on Channel 4 every year and also the Jenson Button Trust Triathlon.
2012 was also a big year for John as he was Race Director for the Olympic Triathlon in Hyde Park. John was called upon by LOCOG in 2007 to work on the world stage and deliver the UK’s most important triathlon following his years of experience in delivering top class triathlon events.
“I am honoured to accept this award from my peers in the triathlon industry,” John said. “I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of working on the Olympic triathlon in 2012 and continuing the Olympic legacy at grass roots level through my work with Human Race. We run more than 55 events each year and I would encourage anyone who was inspired by the Olympics to get out and take part in an event this year."
As well as triathlon events, John and his team at Human Race also deliver cycling, running and swimming events. Human Race’s next local event is the Whole Foods Market Kingston Breakfast Run on 24 March with 8.2 and 16 mile distances to choose from.
