Brand new WoBurner Half Iron distance at the Woburn Abbey Triathlon

8th December 2015

Entries available for all distances on Monday 14th December 2015

An exciting set of changes for 2016 will see more triathletes than ever given the opportunity to participate in the Woburn Abbey Triathlon, presented by tri for life. A new half iron distance called the ‘WoBurner’ will be amongst the highlights when the event returns for an extended two days on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th September 2016.

In a great new twist The WoBurner (1900m swim, 90k cycle, 21.1k run) will make the most of Woburn Abbey’s unique and spectacular backdrop, with a free backpack gifted to all who sign up. A Junior triathlon (ages 8 to 15) has also been added for 2016 which hopes to inspire the next generation of triathletes and fundraisers. Full details of the Junior Triathlon will be released early in the New Year.

For the first time the event, which is delivered by renowned triathlon organisers Human Race, will take place across a full weekend with the WoBurner on Saturday 10th September and the SuperSprint, Sprint, Olympic and Junior distances taking place on Sunday 11th September. Entry into the 2016 event will be available from Monday 14th December 2015. As always relay team options will also be available across the range.

tri for life was originally founded by the late Harvey Selby to harness the growth of triathlon in encouraging others to get fit whilst raising money for good causes. The charity has raised over £2,000,000 to date and, whilst in a change to previous years it is no longer compulsory for participants to fundraise in 2016, everybody is strongly encouraged to with all event profits going to tri for life’s chosen charity beneficiaries – Great Ormond Street Hospital and a select group of smaller good causes.

The Duke of Bedford said “The growth of this unique triathlon has been wonderful to be part of and I’m proud that Woburn Abbey can host such a spectacular event.  It’s been extremely enjoyable working with the tri for life team to broaden the vision for the event with the addition of a longer distance in 2016. I look forward to watching the continued success of tri for life here at Woburn Abbey.”

Entries are expected to be highly sought after, particularly for the inaugural, limited capacity WoBurner distance. Those who want to secure a place on the start line for this special event should head to the Woburn Abbey Triathlon page from Monday 14th December to secure their place.
