Harvey Selby had a vision to widen the circle of support given to others. He saw the opportunity to combine the fastest growing sport with that of raising money for charities, and dreamt up Tri for life, an event for all the family; fun, energetic but with a serious goal, to raise money for those in need. Although Harvey passed away in 2008, he lived long enough to see the inaugural event. His vision was an important one, one now being continued.
Tri for life is a registered charity that has been set up to organise triathlon and scootathlon events. The day offers something for everyone whether children or adults, experts or novices.
Tri for life 2009 is taking place on Sunday 6 September at the picturesque setting of Dorney Lake, Nr. Eton, Nr. Windsor, the rowing venue for the 2012 Olympics.
This year, Tri for life is offering a choice of two distances as well as a scootathlon for children between the ages of 4 and 8. The shorter distance consists of a 400m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run. The longer distance consists of a 800m swim, 30km cycle and 7.5km run. The swim is in Dorney Lake with the cycle and run being on totally flat terrain in a closed off area around the lake (no cars/traffic anywhere to be found). The swim is either one or two laps, the cycle is either four or six laps and the run is two or three laps (depending on which distance race you have entered).
You can either enter the event as an individual (completing each of the swim, cycle and run) or as part of a relay team with two or three people where each completes a different discipline.
The different categories of entrants are as follows:
Junior (ages 14-18)
Individual (18 and over)
Relay adult team (18 and over)
Relay junior team (all team members are under 18)
Scootathlon
For those aged between 4 and 8 there is the chance to enter the Scootathlon. The Scootathlon is a mini triathlon where children can scoot, cycle and run. This will take place before the triathlon in a safe, dedicated Scootathlon area. Boys and girls will race together, in various age categories (depending on numbers). The race begins with a 1 lap (400m) scoot on a scooter, collecting a bike to ride the 1 lap, and then onto a 250m run to the finish line. All three disciplines must be done wearing a helmet, and all children taking part will be awarded a race T-shirt.
There will also be kids entertainers and other fun activities during the day.
Please see the FAQ section of the Tri for life website for more information.
Withdrawal Policy
All profits from Tri for life will be distributed to charities and we are therefore unable to refund entry fees if you withdraw from the race, for whatever reason.

The event will be held at the Olympic rowing venue for the 2012 Olympic Games. Dorney Lake offers a clean open water swim, followed by a closed bike loop around the Lake, and finally the run goes down the side of the lake, making it the perfect course for beginners and seasoned triathletes alike. It's great for spectators, they can see you on each lap.
Full on-site parking means you can come and go while the event is taking place, we have showers and toilets aplenty and there is catering and an on-site triathlon store provided by triandrun.
