ABOUT THE EVENT
Eton Dorney Rowing Lake will transform into a fun-filled festival of Triathlon, as it plays host to the first annual Wiggle Tri Relays - a new event dedicated entirely to triathlon relays. Traditionally a solo sport, competitors of all natures, from club athletes through to groups of friends, families and colleagues, will get together in teams of three to a take on a combination of swimming, cycling and running.
A kids' Scootathlon event, alongside a BBQ and a buzzing event village will support the day’s fun and spectators are expected to turn out in large number, with the varied relay formats offering an exciting spectacle.
The Wiggle Tri Relays offers three formats for competitors to choose from:
Team Relay - 500m Swim, 21.2km Bike, 5km Run
Grab a couple of mates, get yourself to Dorney and each take on one element of the triathlon. Perfect if you want to get involved in the camaraderie of triathlon and love swimming but aren't as strong at cycling or running (or vice versa).
Team Time Trial - 500m Swim, 31.8km Bike, 5km Run
This format is perfect if you and two mates all love triathlon. All three of you will swim together, cycle together and run together as a unit. Your final time will be taken when all 3 of you cross the finish line. Normal drafting rules do not apply - we will set you off first on the day so that you can draft and use each other to post the fastest time possible.
Triple Relay - 500m Swim, 15.9km Bike, 5km Run
Once again, you need a team of 3, all 3 of you will take on the swim leg in a relay format - you swim, pass the metaphorical baton to your mate who swims, before the final team member then swims. You will then all move on to the cycle leg in the same order as you did the swim, before all finishing up with the the run in the same order. So it will be swim, swim, swim, bike, bike, bike, run, run, run....
This format has the beauty of a leisurely transition between each leg while you wait for your team mates to finish their legs. There will be a specific transfer area in both swim transition and run transition for the handover of timing chips to occur and we will also provide an area for the first 2 team members to join the final member to cross the line together.
Team Relay: 500m Swim, 21.2km Bike, 5km Run
Team Time Trial: 500m Swim, 31.8km Bike, 5km Run
Triple Relay: 500m Swim, 15.9km Bike, 5km Run
Scootathlon: 390m Scoot, 390m Bike, 250m Run
