ABOUT THE EVENT
The UK’s most prestigious Sportive returns for its 13th year in 2016! The South Wales event will once again start from the picturesque Margam Park, Port Talbot, having moved there successfully in 2012. 2014 saw the introduction of a mammoth Dragon Devil distance, which will once again be part of the offering for 2016.
The Gran Fondo will take in approximately 2,905m of climbing, passing through the beautiful Brecon Beacons and the Medio Fondo approximately 2,060m.
The Dragon Devil will certainly not be for the faint hearted. There will be a very limited numbers of places available for this option, so those who are keen will need to get in quickly. Those lucky enough to get a place will be well rewarded with an incredibly stunning cycling route which will take in the 'Rhigos', 'Black Mountain' and the 'Devil’s Elbow' – the Dragon ride’s signature climbs – with the addition of the 'Devil's Staircase', a climb with a 15% gradient and elevation of 480m.
Brand new for 2016 is the Macmillan 100 100km distance! We would like as many people as possible to support our official charity Macmillan Cancer Support to help improve the lives of those affected by cancer. We suggest a minimum fundraising target of £100 or a suggested donation of £50 Macmillan when entering this distance, although fundraising is not an entry requirement.
Have you got what it takes to slay the Dragon?
Macmillan Cancer Support is the official charity partner of the Dragon Ride. We are encouraging all our riders to join Team Macmillan to raise as much money as possible to help people affected by cancer.
89 people are hit with the news they have cancer every day in the UK. Then, it hits everyone who loves them. Macmillan believes no one should have to face cancer alone, and the money raised by Team Macmillan from the Dragon Ride will help us to ensure that no one has to.
To join Team Macmillan simply tick the option to be part of their team on the entry form. If you already have a place in the Dragon Ride, you can still join Team Macmillan, just create a fundraising page quickly and easily on JustGiving here.
Once you are registered with Team Macmillan, they’ll send you a welcome pack, fundraising and training materials, and support you right up to the event.
THE DRAGON TOUR
Dragon slayers now have something even more epic to look forward to in the form of the Dragon Tour. The new three day Tour event sees 500 cyclists take on a sportive each day, culminating with the Dragon Ride itself on day three. Each evening Tour riders can enjoy a dinner, some post ride recovery and they will be joined by a special guest speaker on the final evening. A variety of packages are available including accommodation and merchandise options.
