About the event

Do you need help to prepare you for your first triathlon? Or do your want to improve your times this year? The specialists and coaches of RG Active will be on hand to present sessions focusing on all three disciplines of the triathlon and give you a chance to practise your transitions.

RG Active sees over 5000 people each season helping them in every way imaginable as they aim to meet their multi-sport objectives whether that is to get themselves to the finish line, qualify for their country or just have a really good time! The highly qualified and experienced coaching team helping you on your training day include John Brame, Marsha el-Hage, Emma Young & Phil Paterson. Between them they provide coaching for athletes of all levels of fitness and ability from first time triathletes through to seasoned professionals and elite performers.

Starting an open water triathlon with confidence is key for every competitor, and our aim is to provide you with all the advice and support to help you achieve this. The training will be aimed at both complete novices doing their first triathlon as well as those who have completed 1-2 triathlons but still feel like they need help on improving their triathlon technique early in the season. The sessions will provide you with both practical and theoretical advice.

These are just some of the things you will cover:

Swim:

Open water swimming techniques including mass/group starts, course sighting, swimming toys and equipment, turning, fitting and removing wetsuit etc. There will be special provision for nervous and first-time open-water swimmers.

Bike:

Knowing and preparing your bike, bike rules and regs, bike position, bike equipment and nutrition and hydration on the bike leg.

Run:

Efficient run technique, good warm up and post exercise stretching, pace judgement, running drills.

Transition:

Kit layout, transition set-up, options to save time, applicable rules.

Numbers will be limited so early application is required.

The suit is made from super flexible, highly buoyant neoprene for an assured swim performance.

You can purchase or hire a Zone3 wetsuit to make sure you’re fully prepared for your event at the Human Race Hub here.

Please note: the booking deadline to get your wetsuit in time for the event is 5.30pm the Wednesday before the race.

WETSUIT RULE:

We are often asked if wetsuits have to be worn at our events. But the wearing of wetsuits in triathlon is governed by British Triathlon rules and is totally dependent on water temperature one hour before the start of the event.

Water Temperature Wetsuit Rule
Water Temp less than 14 degrees Wetsuits are COMPULSORY
Water temp 14 – 22 degrees Wetsuits are OPTIONAL
Water temp above 22 degrees Wetsuits are BANNED

We do say that wetsuits in fact help with buoyancy and warmth, so we strongly recommend that you wear one if they are optional. We will keep you updated with water temperature as we get closer to the event but at Dorney Lake it is almost always an optional wetsuit swim.
