The stunning venue for the 2012 Olympics is transformed into a festival of open water swimming!
Open water swimming in a venue like Dorney Lake is an amazing challenge whether you are an elite or a beginner with the event featuring four distances, from 750m up to the iconic 10k ‘swimmers marathon’. Dorney Lake, with its clear water, accurate marker points and clear lines of sight provides a great place to take on your first open water swim or go for a great time in one of the longer disciplines.
All swimmers will receive an event swim cap and an exclusive medal!
750m – Minimum Age 14 on Event Day
1500m – Minimum Age 16 on Event Day
3km, 5km, 10km – Minimum Age 18 on Event Day.
The Swim will not be cancelled if the temperature falls below 11 degrees
Wetsuits are optional for all swimmers, and gloves and booties can be used.
1500m – All 1500m entrants must be able to complete the course in under 1 hour
3km – All 3km entrants must be able to complete the course in under 1 hour 30 mins
5km – All 5km entrants must be able to complete the course in under 2 hours 30 mins
10km – All 10km entrants must be able to complete the course in under 4 hours 30 mins
NOTE: All the swim times are taken from the gun time for each wave (there are wetsuit and non-wetsuit waves for the 10k and 5k) so if you either started in the wrong’ wave or chose to start from the water’s edge to avoid the mass start then your time will be from that gun time. The time you receive in your results SMS is the gun time for your wave as this is what all positions and prizes are based on. If you did not complete your distance you will be marked as a DNF even if you crossed the timing mats at the finish – you cannot ‘change down’ to a shorter distance during the event as they all have separate starts.
We’ve teamed up with Zone3 to offer you some of their great range of wetsuits that are perfect for the event for you to hire or purchase.
Zone3 has quickly become one of the most exciting and successful brands on the market thanks to its high performance products which year on year have achieved the highest industry reviews based on speed, comfort, price point and innovation.
Zone3 are offering their Advance wetsuit as part of their hire service for Human Race. The Advance has won many awards including 220 Triathlon magazine’s “Best Buy” award and has become the market leader for first-timers and those on a budget. The suit is made from super flexible, highly buoyant neoprene for an assured swim performance.
You can purchase or hire one of their leading wetsuits to make sure you’re fully prepared for your event. The options are:
We are often asked if wetsuits have to be worn at our events. But the wearing of wetsuits in triathlon is governed by British Triathlon rules and is totally dependent on water temperature one hour before the start of the event.
|Water Temperature||Wetsuit Rule|
|Water Temp less than 14 degrees||Wetsuits are COMPULSORY|
|Water temp 14 – 22 degrees||Wetsuits are OPTIONAL|
|Water temp above 22 degrees||Wetsuits are BANNED|
We do say that wetsuits in fact help with buoyancy and warmth, so we strongly recommend that you wear one if they are optional. We will keep you updated with water temperature as we get closer to the event but at Dorney Lake it is almost always an optional wetsuit swim.
