About the event

Returning for a seventh summer of promoting fun and fitness on two wheels, Cycletta will this year be incorporated into some of the UK’s most highly-regarded sportives for the first time. As more and more women have taken to their bikes over the course of Cycletta’s lifespan, demand has shifted away from introductory-style rides to more challenging courses, which is why we have chosen to incorporate women only waves into our prestigious series of cycling events.

One of these women only waves is Cycletta @ Dragon Ride L’Etape Wales by le Tour de France brought to you by Human Race and ASO! As one of the most iconic sportives in the UK (returning for its 14th year in 2017), Dragon Ride has been selected by ASO as the perfect representation of the world’s most famous cycle event, and will offer the same inspiring le Tour de France riding experience to UK cyclists.

“Following the extraordinary reception Le Tour de France riders enjoyed in the United Kingdom over the last few years, it is a true honour to bring Le Tour de France’s spirit to Wales. This spirit of course remains in the passion for cycling and Le Tour de France itself but it is also linked to an ideal sportive course and Wales’ incredible nature and landscapes. The Dragon Ride L’Etape Wales by Le Tour de France has a route reminiscent of one of Le Tour de France’s most magnificent stages.” – Christian Prudhomme, General Director of le Tour de France

The South Wales event will once again start from the picturesque Margam Park, Port Talbot, having moved there successfully in 2012.

Back again in 2017 is the Macmillan 100 100km distance. We would like as many people as possible to support our official charity Macmillan Cancer Support to help improve the lives of those affected by cancer. We suggest a minimum fundraising target of £100 or a suggested donation of £50 Macmillan when entering this distance, although fundraising is not an entry requirement.

Travel & Accommodation

The Cycletta @ Dragon Ride will be based at Margam Park, Margam, Port Talbot, SA13 2TJ South Wales.

Margam Park is well used to holding major events such as the Wales Rally GB and British Championship Mountain Bike races. The park is located right alongside the M4 motorway and is close to the main line railway stations at Port Talbot and Pyle. Port Talbot station is the nearest to the venue, approximately a 25 minute walk away.

Event car parking will be situated within the deer park only a few hundred metres from the start/finish area, the spacious eastern area of the park will accommodate a more expansive start facility in order to reduce waiting times for riders to get underway.

There are also several attractions on site for family members attending the ride such as the “Go Ape” zip wire, adventure playground, fantasy land and mountain bike hire.
